Patrick Stewart
One of the most successful actors to get his start in American film from the series, Stewart starred as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987-1994. Nowadays, he is most recognized for his recurring role as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie franchise.
Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi was already well on her rise to fame when she began appearing as the El-Aurian Guinan on TNG between 1988-1993. The funny woman has been a controversial host of The View since 2007.
Nichelle Nichols
Nichols was personally encouraged by Martin Luther King, Jr. to stay in her role as Lieutenant Uhura on the original run of Star Trek. Her character was unprecedented on US television as she was one of the first black women to be in a role of power instead of servitude. The kiss she and William Shatner shared on a 1968 episode is often considered one of the first interracial kiss on American television.
George Takei
Takei originated the role of Lt. Sulu in the series. Today, he is a strong gay rights advocate as well as a major player in Japanese-American relations. He just opened his very own musical, Allegiance, on Broadway.
Grace Lee Whitney
This beauty has lived a very interesting life. The original mermaid for Chicken of the Sea tuna, the actress has had a fruitful career aside from Star Trek, going on to release music and even a book during the '90s. The actress still made appearances at Star Trek conventions until her death at just over 85 years old.
Jonathan Frakes
Frakes, who played Commander Riker on TNG, is also famous for hosting the show Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, and he still lends his acting and voice acting talent to various TV shows and documentaries.
LeVar Burton
Who doesn't love LeVar Burton? Aside from Star Trek, Burton is, of course, famous for portraying Kunta Kinte in Roots and for hosting Reading Rainbow (if that doesn't bring back memories, what does?) Burton still acts and was recently in the independent movie Practice Makes Perfect.
Denise Crosby
A granddaughter of Bing Crosby, Denise has a recurring role on Ray Donovan and appeared in several episodes of The Walking Dead.
Michelle Forbes
Forbes' acting career is still going strong. A few years ago, she received an Emmy nomination for AMC's The Killing. She had a recurring role on True Blood, and she appeared in the final Hunger Games movie.
Armin Shimerman
Shimerman, famous for his iconic role of Quark on Deep Space Nine, still lends his talent to many TV shows, movies, and video games. You can catch him in the upcoming Ratchet and Clank movie, in which he'll voice the villain Dr. Nefarious.
Kate Mulgrew
Do you recognize her? Mulgrew is currently enjoying fame for her portrayal of Red on Orange Is the New Black.
Scott Bakula
Golden Globe winner Scott Bakula, who played Captain Jonathan Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise, is still a talented and respected actor. He is a regular on NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans, and he had a supporting role on HBO's recently-cancelled show Looking.
Brent Spiner
Spiner played the iconic role of the android Lieutenant Commander Data on Star Trek: TNG. He is very active in small roles on television, and he will be in the upcoming film The Midnight Man.
Leonard Nimoy
Of course, Leonard Nimoy sadly passed away on February 27, 2015. He lived a long and happy life as one of, if not the most representative actor to come from Star Trek. His reputation will never be forgotten. LLAP.
William Shatner
This star found great fame after originating the role of Captain Kirk on Star Trek: The Original Series. In 2014 he had a hit, one-night-only, one-man autobiographical show on Broadway. Shatner is a regular personality on TV shows and at ceremonies, and he played the popular stint as the Priceline Negotiator in the eponymous ad campaign. He is expected to appear in the remaining half season of the show Haven.
