What’s in a Meme?
There are some words out there that’ll we’ll just never agree on. Tomato or “tomahto.” GIF with a soft g or a hard g. Finance or finahnce. But not meme.
As most internet-savvy people know, meme is a monosyllabic word that sounds an awful lot like “me” with an m at the end. Pretty self explanatory.
But not for the National League of the MLB’s 2015 MVP Bryce Harper, who just made the internet lose its mind when he mispronounced the word on live TV. Now I can’t tell what’s funnier: his mispronunciation or the internet’s reaction.

It all started as an innocent game of Would You Rather on ESPN’s SportsCenter, when host Scott Van Pelt asked the 23-year-old star baseball player of the Washington Nationals if he’d rather be totally bald or have a poorer home run record.
Harper responds, “I don’t even want to answer that right now, because I know how many meh-mays are going to be out there of me with a bald head.”
It was awesome foresight, but a hilariously wrong pronunciation, and the world reacted immediately.

Humble
About the only thing I’m better at in life than Bryce Harper is at pronouncing “meme” and that’s exactly where it ends, too.

At least he can admit it.

The star athlete doesn’t seem to be too upset by his slip up. As the story of his mistake broke, he still tweeted a lighthearted “To My Family, The Nationals Organization/ Teammates, and to all the amazing Fans, Thank You! I’m truly blessed and ‘The Best is Yet to come’.”
